I have a (shy) visitor

Where to see it: Mainly on freshwater lakes, gravel pits, reservoirs, rivers and town park lakes when deep enough. Sometimes seen offshore, especially in winter if freshwater areas are frozen. - RSPB

Unless I’m delirious (which I admit is a possibility), my garden has acquired a camera-shy coot.

This morning (as I mixed my lemsip) I thought I spotted a large black movement near the pond out of the corner of my eye. Later (about four hours later, in fact), I caught a better sight of my visitor and realised it was either a moorhen or a coot.

Then, this evening (yes, another lemsip to soothe my aching everything). I saw it clearly but by the time I’d grabbed the camera it had vamoosed into the shrubbery next to the pond, dangnabbit.
