Episcopal Letter number one

Well, I suppose it’s time that I lost my blogging virginity.

Last night after football training (registering players, not participating, I hasten to add) I found myself in the pub recounting a story of football supporting daring-do involving myself and our host. It therefore seems opportune to recount it again.

Our beloved yellow & blues were playing in European competition for the first time and were drawn to play in Lithuania. Em3 and I took the decision to drive. (After all, it’s not far. Ferry to Calais, turn left and turn left at the other end of Poland) Leaving from London, our host took the shift to Dover. I took over from Calais as he hadn’t driven on the continent before. Yours truly took us as far as Hannover, where, feeling a little tired, I woke Em3 to take over. It felt like I had been asleep for seconds when he woke me to say that he was hallucinating and would I mind taking over again. Wondering how long I had slumbered for, I looked around at the signs. We were in HANNOVER! No matter, I drove on through Germany & Poland with Em3 navigating. As it got dark, he went to sleep and I took a wrong turn in eastern Poland, not noticing for about 40 miles as I drove through the fog. Alerted by a roadsign to my mistake, I turned and shook my navigator. ‘Em3,Em3. I’ve taken a wrong turn, we need to find another route.’ Em3 stirred, said ‘OK then’, passed me the map and went back to sleep! The next time he spoke, we were approaching the Lithuanian border and I’d been driving for the best part of 30 hours (excepting Hannover). His words, ‘Ooh. There’s a pretty sunrise’ did not get the reception he would have hoped for.

Somehow, he lived to tell the tale……..

So many stories from this trip and you choose that one? What about the Polish vegetarian meal? The Lithuanian vegetarian breakfast? The drive to the Lithuanian/Polish border to find a two day wait to cross? Sergei and Sergei? What you did with that second bottle of Polish spirit? The cat?

The Bishop: But I’ve barely started! How long did you want my inaugural post to be?

  3. Bravo Bish! Looking forward to the next installment ;-)
