The perfect destination

Diamond Geezer’s summer twilight post (about how little “night” he found in the Hebrides on holiday last week) made me wonder.

So I went here (and was patient, as DG suggested). I changed the country to Norway and chose Bergen/Flesland.

It seems that at this time of year, night (i.e. the period between Civil Twilight setting and rising) lasts a massive 69 minutes (0106 - 0215am to be precise).

Surely Bergen is the perfect destination for a practicing insomniac?

And, of course, today being the Equinox, you would certainly be able to read a newspaer at midnight without the aid of a torch on the beach at Durness - the farthest northwest community on the mainland - (as I have done). It is the setting for the fabled Swedish Air Stewardess’s Convention and Barbecue, (although unless it warms up a bit, I don’t expect there will be a lot of nude midnight bathing taking place!) - I must say that Diamond Geezers trip to the Hebrides, was probably almost as big a shock to his system (pace of life-wise) as was his return to the Smoke - surprising how quickly you get used to the peace and quiet - although I’ve known vistors who can’t sleep for the first two or three night, because it IS TOO quiet!
