Today was forecast to be the finest day of this long weekend. I hope the forecast was wrong because the weather was hardly conducive to photography.

In spite of the mostly overcast sky there were periods of sunshine, so I set off for a short trip in spite of the weather. Continuing along the road from yesterday’s snaps I was soon stuck in a queue behind a tractor pulling a portacabin at about 10mph through Thetford Forest. Being a calm, relaxed sort of person I took this in good spirits (ahem) and when I spotted a sign for a picnic area in 500m decided to turn off, see what was there and let the road clear.

It’s a small parking area (just the one picnic table that I noticed) but popular with houndy folk - I made a number of “friends” during my brief visit.

I wandered into the woods, try to get some decent photographs (failing in the main, it must be said).

I wonder who lives at number 46 (and pity the poor postie - I couldn’t see a letterbox …).

As I turned for home, a hawk (a kestrel, I believe) swooped towards me, before veering off into the nearby trees. Annoyingly it decided to tease me, not letting me get past so that the sun would be behind me and flying on to the next tree when it judged I was getting too close. Still, I got a one or two decent snaps (and a lot more blurred attempts).

Returning home, I decided to set up the network drives. This was surprisingly easy - slide in the IDE drives, attach the cables, plug the drive into the router and install the software on each of the laptops. As I type this my iTunes library is s-l-o-w-l-y being copied over onto one of the new drives (169 minutes remaining, apparently - I think I’ll leave the photos where they are for today!). There’s no room next to the router and SC101 for the printer/scanner so I may have to invest in a suitable shelving unit tomorrow. I only hope the printer’s as easy to get working as the network drives …
