One World Cup

The orifice is starting to get excited over the forthcoming World Cup.

I wouldn’t mind usually - after all, the more they hype England’s chances, the greater the disappointment when they lose to Germany in the second round - but when Tippler announced “the X pub’s showing the whole of the ‘66 final next week” I couldn’t keep quiet.

Oh, for fuck’s sake let it go. It was forty years ago, for goodness’ sake.

They looked at me as if I’d suggested they remove their own testicles with a Marks and Spencer spork.

I sometimes think the only chance of you forgetting about 1966 would be if you won it this year … and that just doesn’t bear contemplating.

I think it’s a good thing I’ll be away on holiday for the second half of the finals. At least I’ll still be in Norwich when England get knocked out … :-)

  2. … and in the Red & Green Corner with the M&S Spork…..

  3. But the joy we’ll feel when they crash out after losing to Trinidad and Tobago! :) :) :)

Em3: Actually, I now predict England will win Group B with ease but will lose to Mexico in the quarter finals (having beaten Costa Rica in the second round). Probably on penalties. Brazil beat the Czech Republic in the final, by the way.

  4. Footie? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

  5. What I want to know is…what in the heck is a SPORK????

I know nothing of football (other than the “Offside rule” which I can recite by rote).

I do, however, know of the “Spork”, after asking much the same question.

    Spork (spôrk)
    n

A white molded plastic utensil with two or more prongs protruding from a small shallow bowl on a handle, used for eating plastic food out of plastic tubs. Spoon/Fork = Spork.

  7. Thanks for the info Freya. I don’t think we have such tools here. Pity!

  8. But Shelly - you don’t have football either - it’s nothing short of criminal neglect by the state!

  9. Well we do have football, but our football is not soccer. ;o)
