Unfavourable conditions
Considering the lighting within Norwich RC Cathedral, I don’t think I did too bad. If people just stayed a little stiller - I was shooting at down to 1/3s at one point, after all.
The first shot here is a change to my more usual Em3’s shadow - Em3’s reflection. I was composing the shot carefully of the windows reflected in the holy water - and totally oblivious to my own looming presence in frame, honest - when I became aware of someone standing close to my shoulder.I turned, about to chastise whoever it was for getting in the way.
Of course it was Father James, wondering what the fat bloke was doing bent over his font. Thank goodness I realised this before opening my mouth!
The other two shots are more traditional christening shots. By a combination of head gestures and subtle motioning, I persuaded Tall Andy to switch seats with Kitten just as a shaft of sunlight lit that end of the pew. The photo’s necessarily grainy - as I mentioned, the light was very poor and even after boosting the ASA to 320 I still had to shoot this at 1/50s at minimum aperture.
This last shot, just after the register had been signed, was even slower but I’m rather pleased with the overall effect.I just hope that Tall Andy and Kitten agree that some of the shots are reasonable or my next pay review may suffer!

Added on April 30th, 2006 at 6:35 pmv nice atmospheric shots Em! I’m hoping to catch the Norwhag to Lincoln Steam train as it chunders past your town tomorrow morning at 9.30.
Em3: Steam train, eh? 9:30, eh? My not having to be at work, eh? I know just the spot to stand … let’s hope the weather’s not as bad as predicted …

Added on May 5th, 2006 at 9:27 amThe “Fenman” actually appeared at least 1/2 hour ahead of my tip off so I hope you weren’t left hanging around a level crossing all morning! It actually stopped at Eccles in time for me to rush out and grab a nice pic in the mist of full steam in the station. Mind you, it had a modern diesel power unit at the back which brought the carriages back alone that evening after steam sadly broke down.
Sorry this is old post but trying to pip Croila to the 1000th mark!
Em3: Still another 91 to go, I’m afraid, Mulbo. Incidentally, you’d be in 4th place in the “league table” if you had a blog … and none of the other blogless commentors started one.
