Just call me Mr Smooooooooooth

Returning to the dentist’s this morning for a quick check up I noticed that the Cleavage Sisters have been replaced en as it were masse, the reception being manned by a couple of young ladies seemingly struggling to get to grips with everything. A mere 10 minutes after my appointed time, Boss Lady came to fetch me.

“Do you think the reception is dark and romantic?” she asked, as we made our way towards the Chair Of Doom.

Thinking quickly - it’s best not to antagonise someone who’s about to be prodding about in your head - I replied “Without Tizzy being there? lmpossible.

This seemed to satisfy her - phew!

Prodding duly dispensed (I’ve been a good boy, apparently), Tizzy explained: “We need to set a date for the first impression.”

You’ve already made an impression.

She looked puzzled.

On me.

She tutted (albeit smiling) and asked: “Can you make the 24th of February?”

I checked my PDA. “Yes, I can. It’s a date. Well, not a date, but l can dream, can’t I?

Aw, bless - I swear this time she blushed! Her resolve may be weakening …

I returned home to exciting news. It seems that my household is among those specially selected to receive notification of Britain’s Official NEW 2006 £5 Coin. Best of all, if I reserve my coin today it can be mine for just its face value - £5 for £5. POSTFREE.

Now I’m the sort of person to ridicule a company’s marketing literature but their selection process can’t be that special - as a staunch republican, why on earth would I want a coin “featuring a specially commissioned design to celebrate the 80th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II” - and why does “birthday” have a capital “B”?

  1. Er. And why is the reception ‘manned’ by women?

Em3: Either I was using the original meaning for “man” (i.e. human) or I was being exceptionally kind to the receptionistas when I described them as “young ladies”. You decide.

  2. Are you in the habit of using many words with their original pre-saxon meanings? Balderdash and Piffle!

Em3: Forsooth, that I be, egads … whilst I remembereth themme.

  3. Perhaps it’s a capital ‘B’ because it’s a royal birthday?
