Ooh - a leaflet!

Ooh - a leaflet’s been surreptitiously squeezed through my flap!

It’s from two of my district councillors.

The local poultry slayer and packaging company are appealing against the decising to refuse them permission to build a chicken-poo-powered power station in Aaalburgh.

Now I’m wholly in favour of this power station. Not so keen on the slaughtering and packaging of poultry, but if this is to continue, it makes sense to me to use the byproducts to power the town.

Back to the leaflet, though, it’s interesting that the main objection by the councillors who wrote the leaflet seems to be that there will be increased lorry movements through the town which will be disrupted by “over 70 trains a day that pass over the Aaalburgh manned crossing” …. and that they both live on Station Road.

Isn’t that a coincidence?

  1. So it hasn’t occurred to them to lobby for whatever these lorries are carrying (construction materials for the power station, I assume?) to be put on freight trains instead, or am I missing the point?

  2. Forget that last comment. Silly me - more trains would mean more holdups for their corporate 4×4s, wouldn’t it?
I assume they’d be amenable to Aaalburgh having an airport built to bring in the materials? :-)

Might I suggest a visit at an inconvenient hour, to ask them to explain their objections further?? Rather like asking JW’s and other God-botherers, and cold-call phoners for their addresses or phone numbers so that you can contact them at home!

  4. Ah the scent of local politics. Or is it NIMBYism?
