Cracking up
Not me, I hasten to add. It’s the cat.
She seems to have developed an irrational fear of parts of the house, most notedly just inside the front and back doors.
She’ll shout at me to let her in, but when I open the door will back away. If I pick her up and plonk her down inside the door, she bolts off to get as far away from the door as possible.
If she’s indoors now, she won’t go to the door and yell to be allowed out. No, she goes to the next doorway in, yowls and looks at the outer door. If I dutifully go over and open the door to the Great Outdoors, she’ll hare through the hallway or sitooterie and will disappear into the fresh air.
This could be poetic justice for her driving poor Parsley mad.

Added on October 1st, 2005 at 7:44 pmIt’s just possible that you have a tomcat around who has been spraying in those areas - take a hose-pipe to the outside of the door, the step, etc.
Em³: No, it’s not that - she’s happy enough outside the door (and is happy to rub her head on the door frame - just reluctant to cross the threshhold. Besides, no tomcat would dare - her expected reign of terror is in full swing, as far as I can tell.
